How annual leave is prorated

MOM annual leave entitlement starts at 7 days in the first year of service and increases by 1 day each year up to 14 days. Pro-rated leave uses completed months of service divided by 12, multiplied by the annual entitlement, then rounds fractions below 0.5 down and 0.5 or more up.

Assumptions

  • Employee is covered by the Employment Act and has served at least 3 months when statutory entitlement applies.
  • Contractual entitlement can be higher than the statutory floor.
  • Approved unpaid leave months can reduce completed months counted.

What this does not cover

  • Does not approve leave or decide special-policy carry-forward rules.
  • Does not replace an employment contract with better leave terms.

Worked examples

First year statutory leave

Year 1 statutory entitlement is 7 days.

Four completed months

4 completed months with 10 annual days gives 3.33 days, rounded down to 3.

Unpaid leave month

If one month is excluded for unpaid leave, reduce completed months before prorating.
